After the Flood

I received a copy of this gorgeous, 10 pound Steidl (of course) produced book this week. Containing more than 500 pictures taken by Robert Polidori between September 2005 and April 2006 in the aftermath of Katrina, the book is a haunting record of the lives washed away in New Orleans. Does total destruction become art? Eerie and powerful. Some sample images below.

not to be a jerk, but what if the money spent/wasted on the ink/paper/people paid for this book had just gone straight toward? JEEZuz. am i the only last sole sensible person left here?

There's a few other questions here: Should all art stop in New Orleans because of the flood? Isn't documentation of exactly what happened equally important so that people don't forget? And who can say if giving $25,000 to whatever mired-up organization would reach as many people as who have seen and been effected by these photographs?

A portion of the book's proceeds were donated to hurricane relief.
